The National Home of Your Own Alliance sponsored a meeting in November 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to bring together over 70 representatives of twenty-three states involved in home ownership initiatives throughout the country. The goal of the meeting was to share information and common issues surrounding the process of assisting individuals with disabilities to own their homes. Participants worked in small groups discussing their issues, concerns, questions and recommendations. The proceedings in this booklet are a compilation of these discussions. Topics included: the affordability of modular homes; research on the impact of homeownership; securing operating funds for Home of Your Own initiatives; meeting individual support needs; issues of traditionally under-represented groups; the mortgage lending process; home repair; federal policy issues; and the involvement of Independent Living Centers in homeownership initiatives. The publication includes photographs from the meetings and an evaluation submitted by participants.
